When we catalogue DVD’s, we have decided to use [DVD] as the GMD term as that is best for our users. However, we wanted to clarify that what we modify in our local catalogue does not affect the NBD record that we downloaded when we copy catalogued the DVD. We send our holdings to be batchloaded monthly. Can you suggest how we could keep using our local term while maintaing the NBD standard for those records?
Hi Audrey, we have an answer for you now:
We have consulted about the implications of your question and recommend that if you want to use [DVD] instead of the valid GMD [videorecording] in the 245h then best practice would be to use [videorecording (DVD)].
And more generally, if a library wishes to change a valid GMD into something local, then the least problematic approach for matching is for the local term to be added in parentheses after the valid GMD term, for example:
245$h[text (paperback)]
245$h[videorecording (Blu-Ray)]
245$h[sound recording (CD)]
Is this useful?
