You can find out more about Osmosis: the software tool that identifies changes (additions and deletions) to library holdings

May 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The National Library is collaborating with American based company The Marc of Quality to test the performance of OSMOSIS in the New Zealand environment.

Seven libraries are taking part in the pilot project in 2008 and 2009, including one public library, the National Library, four universities, and one consortium. On completion of the pilot, OSMOSIS will be evaluated and considered for widespread implementation in New Zealand.

The National Library hopes using OSMOSIS will improve the batch update process of library holdings to the National Union Catalogue, ensuring the Catalogue is constantly up to date. This quality of information will flow on to OCLC’s WorldCat an international database containing the collections of libraries around the world.
